Allegro is growing, hiring at speed and expanding its offices across Poland

August 31, 2020

Allegro has been developing at an unprecedented pace: over 20 million users visit the site every month, making Allegro Poland’s favourite shopping place. The company, headquartered in Poznan currently employs 2,100 employees across 4 other offices including Warsaw, Torun, Krakow and Wroclaw. In the last 3 years employment grew by 30 percent and in 2020 Allegro already hired 284 specialists and plans to hire 330 more by the end of the year. Allegro is expanding its offices across several locations in Poland starting in Warsaw becoming the largest tenant of the Norblin Factory leasing nearly 15,500 sqm.

The trend of switching from offline to online in Poland has accelerated. Clients shop online, because they can see how easy and convenient it is. Allegro is the place where they can find a virtually unlimited number of products at the most attractive prices. During the first half of 2020 the number of companies selling on the platform - including both SMEs and large retailers - grew 14% to 117 thousand, while the number of offers climbed 21% to 164 million.

Allegro is one of the few Polish companies, which offer career opportunities comparable or even better to the largest global firms - says Francois Nuyts, CEO of Allegro.- We create all the tech and business solutions for our clients and merchants locally, which means that the project you develop will be soon used by millions of Poles, including your friends and family. The whole Allegro ecosystem contributes to the development of the Polish economy in terms of taxes and new workplaces. The scale, the ambition and the unique culture make Allegro a great place to work and develop - added Nuyts.

Allegro is a leader among tech employers in Poland, offering IT engineers and e-commerce specialists a chance to create solutions that impact millions of consumers who shop at Allegro. Only this year, 14 thousand people applied to work at the company. Allegro currently employs 2.1 thousand people, half of which are high-class tech experts and it is actively seeking new staff members. Since the beginning of the year, 284 persons have been hired. Allegro plans to hire 330 more by the end of the year.

New office space to match the growing needs

To better the growth of eCommerce in Poland Allegro is expanding its teams across several locations in Poland - Warsaw, Kraków and Poznan to reach the most talented new hires.

The headcount in Warsaw has tripled since moving to Q22 in 2016, reaching 640 specialists. To keep growing fast we will move to a new location - a landmark in Warsaw - Norblin Factory. It combines all the modern office attributes with a distinctive industrial architecture. We will start moving there in the middle of 2021 and by the end of 2022 the whole Warsaw team will work there. The space available will comfortably accommodate even twice the current number of employees.

Two more locations are also awaiting office extension. Allegro is planning to further develop its headquarters in Poznan. Wielkopolska [Greater Poland] is the cradle of Allegro. The Pixel building, built in 2013 was designed to match the company’s spirit with its original and modern design. It's home to 1340 employees, including the majority of tech teams and the key business functions. Allegro is considering different solutions to keep the pace of growing the Poznan team: either by moving entirely to a new spot or supplementing the Pixel building with extra office space. Another Allegro office that is planned to expand early 2021 is located in Kraków. It opened 5 years ago, in 2014. It currently employs 70 employees and 20 more are about to join this year. The new office will provide a space four times bigger than the original one.

Even though each Allegro employee is assigned to an office, the sheer geographical location is not crucial. There are many teams that consist of members located in various places who can easily cooperate using the digital workplace solutions. Allegro also provides flexible, task-oriented working schedules. Currently, due to the covid-19 pandemics most Allegro employees are working from home and this recommendation will remain valid at least until the end of October.
